Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Keionte Scott got past him. The Dolphins do not have to explain a thing at the 87th overall pick.
If Moore pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Ramsey pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still on the board.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece. A real need, handled.
In slot 30 they get a three-down second-level presence at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Dillon Thieneman in pick 43 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Eli Stowers at pick No. 75 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Keionte Scott in slot 87 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 26, with Malachi Fields worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Kamari Ramsey while clear needs at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat open.
A surprising call. With quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent No. 130 on Davison Igbinosun, a cornerback they were not short of.
Trey Moore in the 151st overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Isaiah Jatta at the 227th pick that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, TJ Hall in the 238th overall pick, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
