The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Browns spent their marquee pick on Cam Ward, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Sanders falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
R1.2
· Pick 2
· Cam Ward
· QB
· rank 8
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Ward at the Round 1 slot, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.1
· Pick 33
· Derrick Harmon
· DT
· rank 30
Derrick Harmon at pick No. 33 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
R3.3
· Pick 67
· Xavier Restrepo
· WR
· rank 63
Xavier Restrepo in Round 3, Pick 3 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.30
· Pick 94
· Danny Stutsman
· LB
· rank 86
A tidy bit of business in the 94th overall pick, where Danny Stutsman graded well above the range. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R4.2
· Pick 103
· Lathan Ransom
· S
· rank 107
No edge and no loss on Lathan Ransom in No. 103; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.26
· Pick 165
· Raheim Sanders
· RB
· rank 146
A running back of that caliber at the 165th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.3
· Pick 181
· Quincy Riley
· CB
· rank 171
A slide stopped in slot 181, with Quincy Riley worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.16
· Pick 194
· Woody Marks
· RB
· rank 181
Woody Marks is a better player than pick 194 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.24
· Pick 202
· Luke Lachey
· TE
· rank 190
Luke Lachey at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a tight end taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
R6.38
· Pick 216
· Ja'Quinden Jackson
· RB
· rank 209
Nothing to complain about; Ja'Quinden Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.39
· Pick 217
· Hayden Conner
· OG
· rank 210
A tidy little value on Hayden Conner in Round 6, Pick 39, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.39
· Pick 257
· Miles Frazier
· OG
· rank 240
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Miles Frazier in slot 257. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
