Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Landing Carson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Travis lower, and that gap is the story.
If Jayden Daniels and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Tyler Guyton at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ja'Lynn Polk slid further than he should have, and Round 3, Pick 4 is lovely value for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roman Wilson. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Caelen Carson at the 104th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marshawn Kneeland in pick 107. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A quiet steal in pick No. 114: Matt Goncalves for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Travis in No. 117 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Ben Sinnott at the 128th pick, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid up for Dylan Laube at pick No. 136 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in slot 152, where Kamal Hadden graded well above the range. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Cody Schrader in Round 6, Pick 7 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jeremy Flax at the 229th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
