Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. It nets out a thoroughly average C-.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Every board in the league had Allen lower, and that gap is the story. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
However the rest shakes out, Adams at that price is a win they earned.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Amarius Mims in No. 34. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in Round 3, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 122 with a little surplus value in Mohamed Kamara. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid up for Ben Sinnott at pick 132 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for Braelon Allen at the 136th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It fills a real need, too.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 143rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trey Knox at the 182nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Taulia Tagovailoa in No. 229, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
