Green Bay Packers

Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for McClellan: B-.

Future B-

The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jase McClellan fell into the Round 6 slot. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The Stover pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with cornerback, quarterback and other spots still on the board.

Every board in the league had Chambers lower, and that gap is the story.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 21
In No. 25 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 41
No drama and no debate, Chris Braswell went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 60
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Bullard at the 58th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
A tidy bit of business in slot 88, where Cooper Beebe graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cade Stover · TE-EDGE · rank 85
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went TE-EDGE with Cade Stover while clear needs at cornerback, quarterback and other spots sat open.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Theo Johnson · TE · rank 136
Theo Johnson in pick No. 127 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 191
This one needs a full-page explanation: Steele Chambers in pick 168, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 187
Value with a capital V on Cornelius Johnson in the 204th pick, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 189
Jase McClellan in pick No. 216 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 220
You do not let an offensive lineman like Garret Greenfield reach Round 7, Pick 23 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Jordan Whittington · WR · rank 247
A clean, defensible pick in No. 251 with a little surplus value in Jordan Whittington. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
