There is conviction, and then there is this. The Broncos took Jordan Hall a full 75 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
The Fields pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
They left with linebacker solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They read the board right and Lee Hunter was the payoff at No. 62. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Malachi Fields in Round 4, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
They went early on Trey Zuhn III in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Bryce Boettcher at the 170th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at pick No. 246 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Hall in pick 256, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Jaren Kanak in the 257th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
