Give the room credit for holding its nerve. Zavion Thomas came off the board 17 spots later than his grade, and the Bears were the ones waiting when he fell. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
Reaching for Banks left real value on the table behind him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for Malachi Lawrence in the 57th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A.J. Haulcy at pick 62 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A quiet steal in the Round 3 slot: Daylen Everette for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Jude Bowry at No. 115 when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Harold Perkins Jr. at pick No. 129 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Robert Henry Jr.. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zavion Thomas in Round 7, Pick 25 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Connor Tollison at No. 256 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
