Nobody else had Evan Williams anywhere near pick 169. The Packers did, by 63 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.

The Magee value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

They will answer for taking linebacker early while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots went begging.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Olumuyiwa Fashanu · OT · rank 8
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 48
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 54
Javon Bullard in pick No. 58 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 94
They took MarShawn Lloyd at par in pick 88, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Roger Rosengarten. The roster fit checks out.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Trevin Wallace · LB · rank 151
A want over a need in No. 126: Trevin Wallace adds a linebacker while edge rusher, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Evan Williams · S · rank 232
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Evan Williams. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Jacob Monk · OT · rank 234
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jacob Monk this early at No. 202. A need, and now a little less of one.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Jordan Magee · LB · rank 160
Jordan Magee at pick No. 219 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 260
Daijahn Anthony at slot 245 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 284
LaDarius Henderson in the 255th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
