You could see the war room lean forward. Xavier Worthy at pick 88 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Powers-Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will answer for taking safety early while quarterback, tight end and other spots went begging.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Kamren Kinchens at the 41st overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
By-the-book stuff, Jonathon Brooks at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They robbed the room for Xavier Worthy here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Jaden Hicks while clear needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots sat open.
Justin Eboigbe in pick 126 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Isaiah Davis at the 168th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 28 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A real head-scratcher, Nathaniel Watson in pick 216 is miles ahead of his ranking. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jeremy Flax at the 243rd overall pick is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dwight McGlothern in Round 7, Pick 31 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
