The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Tommi Hill slide 33 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The cost of the Horn Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, James Pearce Jr. in pick 22. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Luther Burden III in the 38th overall pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Cameron Williams at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 53 is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Domani Jackson at Round 3, Pick 8. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Alfred Collins at slot 86, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A slide stopped in the 108th pick, with Nicholas Singleton worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Evan Stewart at No. 123 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Tommi Hill all the way to No. 144, and they scooped it up. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Tory Horton at pick 185 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a safety like Kevin Winston Jr. reach the 218th overall pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeffrey Bassa in slot 220 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
By-the-book stuff, Shilo Sanders at the 236th pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jimmy Horn Jr. this early at Round 7, Pick 42. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
