Green Bay Packers

Good, not great, for the Packers: B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent pick No. 246 on Evan Williams, a name the board had a full 36 spots lower. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Rakestraw Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 29
In the 25th overall pick they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Chop Robinson · DE-EDGE · rank 35
Nothing to complain about; Chop Robinson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Ennis Rakestraw Jr. · CB · rank 38
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 57 is the definition of value, full stop. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Bucky Irving · RB · rank 93
No drama and no debate, Bucky Irving went about where he belonged in slot 88. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 81
A tidy bit of business in the Round 3 slot, where Jalen McMillan graded well above the range. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 124
No edge and no loss on Justin Eboigbe in the 125th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.35 · Pick 135 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 135
By-the-book stuff, Cedric Gray at slot 135 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Gabe Hall · DL · rank 207
Gabe Hall at No. 203 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
R6.42 · Pick 217 · Omar Speights · LB · rank 208
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Omar Speights for less than the market said. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Demani Richardson · S · rank 246
They reached a country mile for Demani Richardson at pick No. 219, and the board is aghast. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Evan Williams · S · rank 282
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Evan Williams well ahead of where he belonged. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
