You could see the war room lean forward. Chau Smith-Wade at the 216th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

Wright has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
In slot 25 they get a building block for the line, though the board says they badly overpaid.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kamari Lassiter · CB · rank 27
Kamari Lassiter is a better player than the 41st overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 59
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 57 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 73
Value with a capital V on Johnny Wilson in the 88th pick, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 107
Jaden Hicks in the Round 3 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 163
Jaylen Wright at No. 126 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Dadrion Taylor-Demerson · S · rank 165
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 168 with a little surplus value in Dadrion Taylor-Demerson. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R6.28 · Pick 203 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 208
Christian Jones at Round 6, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 168
Chau Smith-Wade in Round 6, Pick 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 275
Value said wait; Isaac Guerendo in the 243rd overall pick says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 268
They liked Zion Logue enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 7 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
