Start where it matters. The Commanders took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Kamari Lassiter in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Morgan in pick No. 40 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kiran Amegadjie at Round 3, Pick 3 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Austin Booker at slot 78, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Zak Zinter at par in the 100th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Theo Johnson at the 139th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at pick 152. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Evan Williams at pick No. 222. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
