You could see the war room lean forward. Jarrian Jones at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Hall left real value on the table behind him.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Amarius Mims slipping to pick 41 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Payton Wilson in Round 2, Pick 26 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nice patience on Max Melton, who had no business lasting to the Round 3 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Dominick Puni at the 91st pick, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Cole Bishop in slot 126 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Circle this one: Jarrian Jones at pick No. 169 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They talked themselves into Gabe Hall at No. 202, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A linebacker of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 44 is the definition of value, full stop. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
The board had Trevin Wallace higher than the 245th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Steal is underselling it; Dominique Hampton at the 255th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
