The Evan Williams pick is the one that will follow the Packers into the fall. They took him 63 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Landing Burton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 41 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 57 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jermaine Burton at slot 88 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
McKinnley Jackson in pick No. 91 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It fills a real need, too.
A premium they did not need to pay, Will Shipley a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Jaylen Wright in the 168th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 6, Pick 28 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Josh Proctor in pick 216 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Evan Williams at No. 243 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A conviction pick on Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 251 that the board grades a round light. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
