The war room fell hard for Dominic Lovett, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 33: 101 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. More right than wrong, and a B to match.

That Arroyo pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In slot 12 they get a featured back at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 12
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in the 45th pick, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 91
A reach for Tez Johnson in Round 3, Pick 12; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.15 · Pick 116 · Joshua Farmer · DT · rank 118
Joshua Farmer at No. 116 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.13 · Pick 150 · Elijah Arroyo · TE · rank 80
Elijah Arroyo in the 150th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.15 · Pick 152 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 83
They barely believed it either: Barrett Carter still on the board at the Round 5 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Cam Skattebo · RB · rank 105
Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.35 · Pick 172 · Tyler Cooper · OG · rank 177
No drama and no debate, Tyler Cooper went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 35. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.37 · Pick 174 · CJ West · DT · rank 209
This one needs a full-page explanation: CJ West in No. 174, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 134
Taking Jay Higgins in pick 190 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.36 · Pick 211 · Jaylin Smith · CB · rank 240
Jaylin Smith at slot 211 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.33 · Pick 249 · Dominic Lovett · WR · rank 350
Dominic Lovett at pick No. 249 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
