Hard to follow the map here. The Packers bypassed edge rusher, quarterback and other spots to take Jaden Hicks at No. 91, a spot they had covered. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Hicks has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 9, where Troy Fautanu graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 57th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They jumped the gun on Tykee Smith, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A minor itch, scratched.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 91 on Jaden Hicks with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Dillon Johnson at pick No. 125 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Malik Mustapha adds a safety and leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots untouched.
