When a board-topper like Isaiah Bond slides to Round 5, Pick 11, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
Crawshaw has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Nice patience on Malaki Starks, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Chris Paul Jr. in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking Isaiah Bond in pick No. 149 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Simeon Barrow Jr.. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jeremy Crawshaw at Round 5, Pick 36 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
They will replay Dorian Strong at the 204th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, RJ Harvey in slot 211, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Bryson Nesbit in the 239th overall pick says they were not listening. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on Cooper Mays in pick 247, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
