The board owed the Patriots one, and it paid up: Chimere Dike, the No. 202 name on the board, sitting there at pick 238 like a gift left on the doorstep.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Frazier lower, and that gap is the story.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a building block for the line at fair value.
A reach for Tre Harris in No. 38; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Maxwell Hairston in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Mason Taylor in pick No. 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Sebastian Castro in pick 106 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tahj Brooks in Round 5, Pick 6 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jason Marshall Jr. at slot 217 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Miles Frazier in the 220th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Chimere Dike in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
