The Patriots spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Alijah Huzzie, the No. 201 name on the board, in the 220th pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Benjamin Morrison at pick 38 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Xavier Restrepo at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Donovan Jackson in Round 3, Pick 13 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Gunnar Helm in slot 106. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Bhayshul Tuten went about where he belonged in No. 144. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Akili Arnold is a better player than the 217th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Somehow Alijah Huzzie was still sitting there in the 220th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Nothing to complain about; Teddye Buchanan went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
