You could see the war room lean forward. Jeff Caldwell at Round 6, Pick 25 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball. The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a security blanket over the middle, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Keith Abney II is a better player than pick No. 58 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Harold Perkins Jr. at Round 4, Pick 27 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
Jude Bowry at the Round 4 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Gracen Halton in slot 139, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Jaeden Roberts in pick 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Taking Jeff Caldwell in the 206th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
