The Giants did not so much draft Grayson Murphy as overpay for him, 139 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.
The Burke steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid up for Tyler Guyton at pick 39 when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zak Zinter in the 47th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Denzel Burke in slot 64 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tommy Eichenberg. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They left a pile of value on the table to take LaDarius Henderson this early at Round 5, Pick 7. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Justin Eboigbe in slot 177; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Steele Chambers in the 185th overall pick, miles early. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Grayson Murphy at pick No. 249 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
