The Giants did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Max Melton fell into pick No. 143. Very little went wrong, and the A is earned.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, safety went untouched, which is hard to explain. The veteran additions, Brandon Aiyuk chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
In the end it comes back to Troy Fautanu, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Nice patience on Troy Fautanu, who had no business lasting to slot 39. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 15 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Mekhi Wingo at par in No. 70, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Max Melton in pick No. 143 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Chau Smith-Wade in the 185th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
