The Barryn Sorrell selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 138 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. No fireworks, but a solid B.
McCord at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy bit of business in slot 44, where Omarion Hampton graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They did well to land Andrew Mukuba in pick No. 76, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Ajani Cornelius in pick 150 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They barely believed it either: O'Donnell Fortune still on the board at the 170th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Kyle McCord at Round 5, Pick 33 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nazir Stackhouse. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A real head-scratcher, Barryn Sorrell in No. 190 is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
Jaishawn Barham at pick 211 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Eric Gregory at Round 7, Pick 31 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
