Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent pick No. 174 on Barryn Sorrell, a name the board had a full 141 spots lower.
Landing Gordon II that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 1 slot with a little surplus value in Tetairoa McMillan. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Alfred Collins enough to skip the value, taking him in the 44th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: TreVeyon Henderson still on the board at No. 76. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Jeffrey Bassa was still sitting there in pick No. 150, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Kurtis Rourke at slot 170 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They did well to land Ajani Cornelius in Round 5, Pick 33, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wild overpay on Barryn Sorrell in the 174th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jabbar Muhammad at pick 190 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A running back of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Brady Cook in the 249th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
