Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick 174 on Trey Moore, a name most had 119 spots down the list. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
On value alone, Howard makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a centerpiece for the ground game at a price that makes it sweeter.
Alfred Collins at pick No. 45 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jayden Higgins in No. 76 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Hollin Pierce at pick 116 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Will Howard at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Jabbar Muhammad at the 170th pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Oronde Gadsden II at pick 172 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Trey Moore at pick No. 174 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaishawn Barham this early at the Round 6 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on Andrew Armstrong in Round 6, Pick 33, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A real head-scratcher, Shilo Sanders in the 249th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
