The war room fell hard for Barryn Sorrell, and it showed at pick 211: 104 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
McCord at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Alfred Collins a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Quinshon Judkins higher than the 76th pick, and the running back fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Hollin Pierce at the 117th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Somehow Kyle McCord was still sitting there in pick No. 149, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No edge and no loss on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in Round 5, Pick 32; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Connor Colby at par in pick 171, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Nohl Williams. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Ollie Gordon II in pick No. 188 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Barryn Sorrell well ahead of where he belonged. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They talked themselves into Shilo Sanders at the 247th pick, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
