The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Bo Nix, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Fiske. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Bo Nix and all.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Bo Nix at par in the 17th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board had cheaper options than Xavier Worthy at pick No. 34, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A slide stopped in pick 68, with Ja'Tavion Sanders worth more than the price. The roster fit checks out.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 3 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on Javon Foster in the 139th pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Curtis Jacobs, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had Myles Jones higher than slot 224, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A reach on Dylan McMahon in the Round 7 slot; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
