The Giants treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 140th pick on Jaylen Wright a full 23 spots early. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Landing Cooper that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a true top target. The biggest hole, addressed.
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 47th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Edgerrin Cooper, who had no business lasting to pick 70. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Tykee Smith at pick No. 108 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jaylen Wright in No. 140 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Roger Rosengarten at slot 185 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
