The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jay Higgins fell into the 209th pick.
The Prieskorn reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a three-down runner at a price that makes it sweeter.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Malaki Starks in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Carson Beck at Round 3, Pick 14 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Antwane Wells Jr. in the 148th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Smael Mondon Jr. at pick No. 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the 170th overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Tahj Brooks here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 189 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Jay Higgins all the way to No. 209, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Caden Prieskorn this early at the Round 7 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
