Every other box got a look, but edge rusher did not. The Browns will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Reese value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The cost of the Cooper Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a downhill hitter at safety at fair value.
In pick No. 24 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
A reach for Omar Cooper Jr. in the 39th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Blake Miller at Round 3, Pick 6. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They let Ja'Kobi Lane come to them and pounced at slot 107. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Dametrious Crownover in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Beau Stephens at No. 146 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Drew Allar in the 149th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Jeff Caldwell enough to skip the value, taking him in the 206th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Bryce Foster at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
