The Browns did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Zachariah Branch fell into the 107th pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the back end. A real need, handled.
In slot 24 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Bell. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eli Stowers at No. 70 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a wide receiver like Zachariah Branch reach the 107th pick and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Parker Brailsford higher than pick 141, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Dametrious Crownover at pick No. 146 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Chris McClellan at the 149th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Cole Payton at pick 206 is money in the bank, a quarterback taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Thaddeus Dixon at slot 248 is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
