The Browns went off the board in a big way for Will Kacmarek, 70 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
However the rest shakes out, Stukes at that price is a win they earned. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
In the 24th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in the 39th overall pick, where Denzel Boston graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Emmanuel McNeil-Warren higher than Round 2, Pick 23, and the safety fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They let Jake Slaughter come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Treydan Stukes all the way to pick No. 107, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Ja'Kobi Lane at the 123rd pick for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Chris McClellan. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hezekiah Masses in slot 149. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jeff Caldwell slipping to the 206th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Will Kacmarek in pick No. 248, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
