Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Vikings never addressed safety, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
That Newton pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Jeremy Chinn pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
The Davis reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the safety spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 1: Kool-Aid McKinstry for less than the market said. It adds depth where they could use a little.
J.J. McCarthy in the 42nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ricky Pearsall in pick 65. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Tyler Davis at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Cedric Gray in No. 130 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to slot 141. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Nothing to complain about; Justin Eboigbe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Trevor Keegan in pick No. 166 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Walter Rouse at Round 6, Pick 4 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Myles Harden in pick No. 190, a step better than break-even. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
