Green Bay Packers

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-.

The Packers bet big and early on Frank Gore Jr., 56 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

The Oladapo pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and tight end still on the board.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 35
In slot 25 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · T'Vondre Sweat · DT · rank 48
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in the 41st pick, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Kamren Kinchens · S · rank 73
They paid up for Kamren Kinchens at No. 58 when waiting would have done the job. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 96
They liked Trey Benson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 88. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 94
Cam Hart in pick No. 91 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
A surprising call. With quarterback and tight end still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Kitan Oladapo, a safety they were not short of.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 5, Pick 32 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 177
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 204th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Myles Cole · DE-EDGE · rank 223
No edge and no loss on Myles Cole in slot 216; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 250
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edefuan Ulofoshio. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint · WR · rank 198
Steal is underselling it; Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
