The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Jaylan Ford, the 225th pick, roughly 20 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Malik Nabers at No. 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Guyton in the 37th pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Blake Corum at pick No. 69 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A premium they did not need to pay, Theo Johnson a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They did well to land Zak Zinter in Round 4, Pick 10, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Trevor Keegan in slot 140 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No drama and no debate, Cornelius Johnson went about where he belonged in the 181st overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
You do not let a linebacker like Jaylan Ford reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
LaDarius Henderson in Round 7, Pick 33 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
