This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jordan James, the No. 56 name on the board, stolen at pick 236.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 14 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Jalon Walker still on the board at the Round 2 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Shemar Stewart at slot 71 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tate Ratledge in Round 3, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Xavier Watts here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Ajani Cornelius in pick 142, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
You do not let a linebacker like Jihaad Campbell reach the 219th overall pick and blink. They did not. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
The board fumbled Trey Amos all the way to No. 222, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jordan James at the 236th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
