You can hear the double-takes from here. The Chiefs took Javon Foster at the 99th pick, roughly 22 spots before his name belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Darius Robinson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
By-the-book stuff, Devontez Walker at pick No. 64 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Christian Mahogany in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javon Foster at the 99th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Isaac Guerendo in pick 101 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylin Simpson in slot 131 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor need, but a need all the same.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khristian Boyd in No. 158, miles early. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Dwight McGlothern went about where he belonged in pick No. 172. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They took Joshua Cephus at par in the Round 7 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
