Call it larceny. Dominick Puni sat on the board until pick 127, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. They are betting Briningstool proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 27 they get a difference-maker at receiver, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on Edgerrin Cooper at the 53rd pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in the 88th overall pick, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Donovan Edwards in pick No. 121, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Dominick Puni reach slot 127 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Malik Mustapha at Round 5, Pick 22 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Blake Watson in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They liked Jake Briningstool enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 242. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
