Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Cam Skattebo got past him. The Commanders do not have to explain a thing at slot 202.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They went 3 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. More want than need.
Tyler Booker at pick No. 60 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 146 is the definition of value, full stop. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
The board fumbled Cam Skattebo all the way to pick 202, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Jared Wilson at Round 7, Pick 20 is a fall that decides a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
