The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Smael Mondon Jr., the No. 102 name on the board, sitting there at the 236th pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with tight end the one that mattered most.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Somehow Tyler Booker was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tight end of that caliber at slot 79 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Andrew Mukuba all the way to pick No. 146, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at the 202nd overall pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Smael Mondon Jr. in the 236th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Seth McLaughlin at Round 7, Pick 30 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
