Nobody had Storm Duck this high, and it is not close. The Texans reached 38 spots to get him at the Round 7 slot.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Landing Colson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, T'Vondre Sweat went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Malachi Corley in Round 3, Pick 27 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Junior Colson at No. 123. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Cam Hart in the 126th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick 163 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at Round 7, Pick 19 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A real head-scratcher, Storm Duck in the 247th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
