There is conviction, and then there is this. The Texans took David Ugwoegbu a full 85 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
On value alone, Corley makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Keon Coleman at the 58th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in pick No. 90, with Payton Wilson worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Will Shipley at pick 123 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Malachi Corley in No. 126 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaden Hicks at Round 5, Pick 27 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, David Ugwoegbu well ahead of where he belonged. The roster logic is harder to follow.
A tidy bit of business in pick 247, where Blake Watson graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
