The Texans torched the value chart for De'Corian Clark, taking him 29 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Trotter Jr.. Leaving offensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 23 they get a run-stuffing presence up front, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Jonah Elliss at Round 2, Pick 26 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in slot 90 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Khyree Jackson. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Malik Mustapha. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
De'Corian Clark in the 163rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jake Briningstool in No. 247 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
