The Texans bet big and early on Xavier Thomas, 48 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Getting Jurkovec where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
They liked Byron Murphy II enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 58. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy little value on Malachi Corley in pick No. 90, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Beau Brade, who had no business lasting to No. 123. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Khyree Jackson at the 126th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A minor itch, scratched.
Xavier Thomas in the 163rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Phil Jurkovec slid further than he should have, and the 239th overall pick is lovely value for the quarterback. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Carson Steele at par in slot 247, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
