The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They are betting Wilson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Pearsall value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Guyton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ricky Pearsall slid further than he should have, and pick 68 is lovely value for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Johnny Wilson at Round 4, Pick 3 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid up for Mason McCormick at the 137th pick when waiting would have done the job. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Justin Rogers at the Round 6 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jaylen Harrell in No. 193 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A real head-scratcher, Kimani Vidal in the 231st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
