Everything else got attention, and offensive lineman got none. That is a strange way for the Texans to leave a draft. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Jurkovec steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Hopper has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with running back the one that mattered most. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get juice off the edge, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on T'Vondre Sweat. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Malachi Corley in slot 88 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Max Melton at the 121st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Jaden Hicks went about where he belonged in the 127th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reach for Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 158; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Watson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in pick No. 242, with Phil Jurkovec worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
