The Texans bet big and early on Eyabi Okie-Anoma, 144 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Allen. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson at the 23rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Xavier Legette is a better player than the 58th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Wilson at No. 90. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They will replay Braelon Allen at slot 123 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Malik Mustapha. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Michael Barrett at pick 163 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Eyabi Okie-Anoma this early at the 239th overall pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Blake Watson in the 247th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
