The Texans put a flag in the ground for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, 23 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
A premium they did not need to pay, Chop Robinson a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Xavier Legette higher than slot 53, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Johnny Wilson worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Beau Brade in pick 121 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They did well to land Cam Hart in pick No. 127, just ahead of his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 158th pick, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Watson at slot 239 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in No. 242, where Phil Jurkovec graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
