Call it larceny. Keon Coleman sat on the board until pick No. 53, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. If Robinson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th overall pick they get a premier pass rusher, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Keon Coleman in pick 53 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy little value on Malachi Corley in the 88th pick, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board fumbled Dominick Puni all the way to slot 121, and they scooped it up. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Cedric Gray higher than the Round 4 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Malik Mustapha in No. 158 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Phil Jurkovec in pick No. 239 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Xavier Restrepo still on the board at Round 7, Pick 22. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
